(GWANGJU=NEWSIS) Gwangju will develop eco-friendly hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as the main project of the City.

Gwangju is striving to become the leader of eco-friendly hydrogen fuel cell vehicle industry by developing technology, operating charging stations and supplying hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

The City has already established a state-of-the-art charging station in the Jingok Industrial Complex last April, which is under pilot operation.

Also, the City has bought two hydrogen fuel cell vehicles last June for the first time in Korea and it plans to buy three more by the end of October.

The price of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle amounts to KRW 150 million, indicating that there is a long way to go to commercialize the fuel cell vehicles. However, experts expect that the fuel cell vehicles will be commercialized by 2020 as the price will fall following consistent technology development.
