According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju announced November 5 that it will hold a launching ceremony of the promotion committee for the auto industry valley on November 7.

The committee will be responsible for creating Gwangju as a city that produces 1 million vehicles.

The committee will advise on the establishment of the 1 million vehicle city project, support the attraction of fully built car and auto parts production companies and carry out social integration activities to increase production in the domestic automobile industry.

The committee will have offices in Seoul and Gwangju where meetings will be held frequently for the project.

The reason why Gwangju is so proactive in creating the 1 million vehicle city is because the city strives to fight crises in the domestic automobile and manufacturing industries due to lack of investment in the domestic fully built car industry and government’s financial and political support.
