According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) According to Gwangju on December 8, the city held ten big and small international exchange events following the opening of Culture City of East Asia last March.

The cultural exchange events including the Korea-China-Japan Culture and Art Festival, youth cultural exchange and the Gwangju-Quanzhou private tourism exchange showed the cultural capability of Gwangju.

At the Asia Summit of Culture Cities that was held in Yokohama in Japan last month, Gwangju, Quanzhou and Yokohama reached a friendly cooperation agreement for co-development, which is the biggest achievement of the Culture City of East Asia.

The Culture City of East Asia was established at the fourth Korea-China-Japan Ministers Meeting in 2012 to respect cultural diversity and promote cultural exchange and convergence.

The Culture Cities for 2014 are Gwangju, Quanzhou and Yokohama.

The Culture Cities for 2015 are Cheongju, Qingdao and Nigata.

"The event is an opportunity to introduce Gwangju and its culture to China and Japan. We hope to create a cultural community of East Asia through the friendly cooperation agreement," said an official at the Preparatory Committee for Culture City of East Asia.
