A creative economy innovation center is to commercialize creative ideas and support small-and medium-sized companies (SMEs) and venture capitals.

The center, which is also a base for industrial and academic cooperation that is promoted by Hyundai Motor Company and Gwangju City to revitalize its regional creative economy, will provide space for start-ups and SMEs to use as offices and management consulting.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) will prioritize constructing five creative economy innovation centers in Busan, Incheon and Gwangju cities and Gyeonggi and South Gyeongsang provinces by the second half of this year.

The ministry plans to open creative economy innovation centers in Gangwon Province, North and South Chungcheong Provinces, North and South Jeolla Provinces and North Gyeongsang Province by early next year.

The MSIP and relevant agencies will be in charge of the establishment of centers, but the private sector will take over working-level details including the operation of the center.
