(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) has established an energy valley technology center for conducting energy-related research and development (R&D), supporting startups that specialize in energy and nurturing human resources in the energy sector in Gwangju.

GIST announced May 28 that an opening ceremony for the center will be held on May 29 at its LG Science Library.

The energy valley technology center will boost the regional energy industry in the light of the relocation of the Korea Electric Power Corporation and its subsidiaries to the Bitgaram City.

"The energy valley technology center, which will be at the center of energy R&D, will become the driving force for the development of the energy industry in Gwangju. We will spare no effort in developing our regional society through the research capacity that we have at GIST," said GIST President Moon Seunghyeon.
