According to Yonhap News,

(GWANGJU=Yonhap News) Gwangju City, the Korea Association for Photonics Industry Development and the Korea Photonics Technology Institute met with Senegal President Macky Sall on June 4 to have a business meeting for the Korea-Senegal LED and optical communication project.

The Korea-Senegal LED and optical communication project aims to build a regionally-tailored optical infrastructure by supporting the LED lighting standards of Senegal and nurturing experts to supply Senegal’s optical infrastructure throughout Southwest Africa.

The business meeting was carried out under the request from the Senegal government, which participated in the Photonics Korea 2014 in October 2014.

The industrial infrastructure in Senegal is outdated due to its weak electricity supply.

Therefore, the demand for optical communication infrastructure is increasing to improve the living conditions, develop LED lights and enter the global LED market.

President Sall expressed a great interest in the industry and academic cooperation system of optical industry cluster in Gwangju. He also hoped that the optical industry of the city will build an optical industry cluster for Senegal.
