(SEOUL=Yonhap News) The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced December 20 that it has opened drone company support hubs in the cities of Daegu and Busan to enhance the competitiveness of the local drone industry.
The drone company support hubs were established to stimulate commercial drone markets by finding new demand for drones at public institutions, and provide testing equipment and test beds for commercialization, as well as consulting and patent registration services.
Various SMEs and startups in the fields of drone development, manufacturing, software, and services, are set to move into the hubs.
Starting next year, the cities of Daegu and Busan will push forward wih various public projects the utilize drones.
Daegu plans to launch a feasibility study for using drones as surveillance devices at manufacturing facilities next year, and put the drones into active service later in the year.
Busan will carry out feasibility studies for introducing drones to five fields, including port facility surveillance, fine dust and water measurement, and delivery of emergency medical products and foods to remote areas. The drones will be put into active service starting in 2019.
