(DAEGU=Yonhap News) Daegu City will take part in a project to develop autonomous and smart city services based on a 5G network.
On May 23, the city announced it was selected for 2 of the projects, autonomous and smart city services, as part of the Ministry of Science and ICT's 5 convergence projects based on 5G.
The autonomous driving service project will be led by KT to build a 5G autonomous driving demonstration infrastructure in Suseong Alpha City with a budget of KRW 54.4 billion in public and private capital by 2020, and implement an autonomous shuttle service equipped with AI.
In order to enhance the safety and convenience of autonomous vehicles, various services such as high-precision position tracking and augmented reality road information services will be developed.
The city will cooperate with Kyungpook National University and the like for the smart city services project. The consortium will provide services such as real-time traffic volume, hazardous material detection and an information system through the convergence of 5G, ICT and urban infrastructure services.
The consortium for the projects will be centered around the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, with a budget of KRW 38.8 billion.
