(DAEGU=Yonhap News) A tech center of Germany's KUKA, a global robot company, held a relocation & opening ceremony in Daegu.

Daegu city said on March 25, that KUKA robotics Korea, a Korean arm of KUKA group, opened "KUKA Korea Tech center" at Gyeongbuk university on March 26.

KUKA robotics Korea entered the Korean market in 1998, and originally was located at Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA).

At the tech center, development and test for various industrial robot applications such as spot-welding robot, seven axes handling robot for press line take place. It plans to provide various services to domestic and foreign companies.

Daegu city added that the opening of KUKA's tech center, following other global robot companies like Hyundai Robotics, ABB, and Yaskawa, has raised Daegu city as the center of Korea's robot industry, equipped with production factory and educational center.

KIRIA was established in Daegu in 2010, and a project to build foundation for the cluster of robot industry was completed in June 2017. The number of robot-related companies increased from 48 in 2014 to 161 in as of the late 2017.

The city presented measures to create "Daegu, a city that leads the robot industry" where humans and robots coexist at "a conference on strategy to foster the robot industry" participated by President Moon Jae-in at Hyundai Robotics on March 22.

KUKA Korea Tech Center said, "We hope that the opening of the Tech center will provide an opportunity to improve the brand image of KUKA and provide various test methods to companies with demand for robot."
