Daegu Oct 23 (Yonhap) -- The eyewear industry of Korea and Daegu in particular has kicked off efforts to enter the Vietnamese market to seek export opportunities.
According to Daegu city government on Oct. 23, Daegu City and the Korea Optical Industry Agency (KOIA) have recently participated in the 2019 Vietnam Overseas Eyewear Brands Business Meeting hosted in Ho Chi Minh, the center of Vietnam's eyewear market, and in the nation's capital of Hanoi.
At the business meeting, twelve enterprises including local ones had meetings with 72 buyers including Vietnam Optical and discussed deals worth USD 5.28 million (KRW 6.2 billion), among which the process is ongoing for the signing of contracts valued at USD 2.4 million (KRW 2.8 billion).
Moreover, seven MOUs were reached, thereby providing the opportunity for Korean eyewear businesses to enter the Vietnamese market. The event was hosted by Daegu city government, MOTIE and KOIA in a bid to strengthen the competitiveness of eyewear businesses and to further develop Korea's eyewear industry.
"The event served as an opportunity to promote Korean eyewear brands in the Vietnamese market," said an official of Daegu City. "We will continue to explore overseas markets by attending the Hong Kong Optical Fair in November and in next year's Opti2020 held in Munich, Germany.
