According to Newsis,
Junggu, Daegu city, announced on Mar. 22 that the local authorities will run a commissioned research project, as part of feasibility study to transform the downtown, Dongseongno into a hot tourist spot in the city.
Under the current provisions of the Tourism Promotion Act, each municipality can ease regulatory enforcement to attract tourists and develop community infrastructure, sourced by national budget. Going through a series of screening process, the city of Daegu and the tourism ministry decide whether to approve the project.
In the midst of business disruptions due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the city government expected that the project may serve as a momentum, busting the gloomy mood into vigor. Authorities go into the next phase to roll out the roadmap right after reviewing the business feasibility research for eight months. Most of the process appears to come to an end till the end of this year. Once Dongseongno is selected to be remodeled, it will become the very first special zone for tourist attraction in the city.
