Daegu city to run HuStar program to foster future talents in water industry
An opening ceremony in commemoration of the launch of what’s called “HuStar” program sponsored by the city of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province was held on Jun 19 in Yeungnam University, selected as the authorized body last year, taking a role in fostering capable talents to meet market demand in water industry. They pick roughly 40 undergrad-students in the third year in college to get the program started.
The project, “HuStar”, was originally designed as part of municipal HR training program, which focuses primarily on fostering talents and building human potential, ready to work in water industry, regarded as the future growth driver. The city backs up funds worth KRW 3.9 billion from the year 2019 to 2023.
Yeungnam University opens a new course for studying smart water system engineering, which involves a cross-curricular learning, while running an internship program that offers students with a practical work experience, career connections and networking opportunities within the given organizations.
Plus, 21 local water businesses agreed to join an industry-affiliated university employment sponsorship program, recruiting 42 new employees annually (as of 2022). City mayor presented at the ceremony said “The program is highly anticipated to become the major contributor to the development of water industry in Korea by creating a virtuous circle, fostering future talents on one hand, while putting the wealthy pool of human resources into right places on the other hand.”
