The '2021 Steel and Metal Korea (SMK2021)', which showcases Gyeongbuk's globally competitive steelmaking technology and products, opened at EXCO in Daegu on the 6th.

It is an industrial exhibition co-hosted by Gyeongbuk Province and Pohang City, the Korea Iron & Steel Association and the Korea Nonferrous Metal Association, co-organized by EXCO, The Fairs, S&M Media, and KOTRA, and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE).
The exhibition will display the latest technologies and products related to steel and non-ferrous metals of about 100 companies.
During the exhibition period, various additional events will also be held such as seminars to share innovative technologies and product information, the Steel/Non-ferrous Metal Agenda 21 conference, online business meetings inviting overseas buyers, job fair in the steel industry, among others.
Among them, the 'Steel/Non-Ferrous Metal Agenda 21 Conference' deals with the issues recently faced with the industry such as the future strategy of the steel industry in a carbon-neutral era, innovative technology for hydrogen reduction steelmaking, and hydrogen electric vehicles. It is expected to serve as an opportunity to transform the steel industries into more sustainable low carbon circular economy and eco-friendly steel/non-ferrous industry.
Meanwhile, Gyeongbuk-do plans to add new momentum to the overall steel industry through technology innovation and conversion to high value-added products with the 'Steel Industry Leapfrog Technology Development Project' , which invests KRW 135.4 billion (national KRW 92.4 billion, Local KRW 10.3 billion, Private KRW 32.7 billion) in 2021-2025 to overcome global economic recession caused by the Covid-19 and spread of global protectionism.
