According to Yonhap News,
Gyeongsangbuk-do is set out to attract companies with a plan to foster the aviation industry in connection with Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport.
Gyeongbuk-do said on November 21 that it completed the research service on the measures to attract aircraft manufacturers in connection with local airports. Based on this reserch, the province will begin establishing a detailed plan to strengthen the competitiveness of the aviation industry.
It plans to create a cluster by attracting companies related to the aviation manufacturing, related parts, interior, aviation maintenance and service companies.
Based on the research, the province plans to foster relevant industries in cooperation with various overseas aircraft manufacturers and aviation industry organizations home and abroad who want to advance into Korea and Asian region.
In cooperation with airlines and leading companies, the province will establish policies to support companies and incentives tailored to the target companies.
By absorbing the demand of low-cost carriers for maintenance and parts, the province will build a distribution hub for East Asian region and push for creating a supply chain base for the Southeast region encompassing Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Busan.
In addition, the province will foster startups in the aviation field, provide support for R&D, support investment in such ways as exemption from rent and acquisition tax, and carry out promotion and attraction activities.
As a result of active discussion with related and target companies during the research service period, the province received a letter of intent for continued cooperation in future projects from 9 national and international aviation-related companies and institutions including aviation cluster operator of Germany and aviation cargo automation system manufacturer of Netherlands.
The province plans to establish the direction for customized attraction and future implementation strategy reflecting opinions and demands from these companies and institutions. Daegu-Gyeongbuk Airport, relocating Daegu's civil and military airports to Gunwi and Uiseong, is slated for opening in 2028.
