According to Yonhap News,
The industry, academia, research institute, and government in Daegu are working together to help Daegu regional auto parts companies transform into future cars.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and Daegu Metropolitan City held the 'Proclamation Ceremony for Conversion to Future Vehicles' of local auto parts companies at Convention Hall, the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology on January 5.
This day, Daegu-si announced the 'Future Car Conversion Promotion Plan' that includes the opening of the Daegu Future Car Conversion Support Center, the establishment of an online one-stop support platform, and support for technology development and commercialization.
Then, there was a ceremony to launch the 'Support Council for Future Vehicle Conversion' in which local auto parts companies, universities, research institutes, and financial institutions are participating, and a ceremony to declare a vision for conversion to future vehicles.
A total of 18 institutions, including Daegu-Gyeongbuk Office of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Kyungpook National University, Keimyung University, Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology, Daegu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Daegu Bank will participate in the Support Council for Future Vehicle Conversion, with the Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts Promotion Institute (Comprehensive Support Center) as the base organization.
Daegu-si plans to support technology development (R&D), commercialization, business establishment, sales channel development, manpower training, and finance of auto parts companies, based on an organic cooperation system between the Comprehensive Support Center and the Support Council for Future Vehicle Conversion.
Daegu-si said 11 out of 18 major automobile internal combustion engine parts manufacturers in the region (61%) are already in the process of transitioning to the future car sector.
In particular, movements for transition to future vehicles are emerging in various fields such as electric vehicles (motor modules), hydrogen electric vehicles (hydrogen storage tanks), and autonomous vehicles (production of small and multi-purpose autonomous vehicles) through cooperation with other industries such as information technology (IT) and software (SW).
The government has been building a 'regional support platform' in cooperation with the region to help domestic auto parts industry prepare for the transition to future vehicles.
It is the third time a future vehicle conversion support system was launched in Daegu Gyeongbuk region, following the Southeast region (Changwon) in June last year and the Jeolla region (Gwangju) in December.
