According to Yonhap News,

Daegu-si is to foster the future-car industry by investing KRW 174.9 billion this year.

According to Daegu-si on February 13, Daegu has no finished car manufacturer but has 13 out of 100 domestic auto parts producers. The share of the added-value of the auto parts industry in Daegu amounts to around 20%.

Under such circumstance, the city opened a department of future vehicles, for the first time among local governments in 2017, endeavored to establish the ecosystem. As a result, it achieved No.1 in distribution of electric vehicles per population among metropolitan cities, established auto-driving test environment, and growth of materials, parts, and equipment companies.

The city is set to advance core parts of future cars, foster self-driving convergence industries, roll-out zero-emission cars, and support the growth of future car companies this year.

First of all, the city will work for the driving and electronic parts demonstration base creation project (KRW 4.8 billion) and the electric power-based vehicle (e-Drive System) core parts industry development project (KRW 3.2 billion) , centered on the driving and electronic parts demonstration center - scheduled to be completed this year - and the Daegyeong headquarters of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute.

It will turn the Dalseong-gun Technopolis ~ National Industrial Complex area into a Level 4 autonomous driving demonstration town by improving technological capability through the addition of software to future-leading development (KRW 6 billion) and establishing 5G-based autonomous driving convergence demonstration platform (KRW 11.9 billion) and future car digital convergence industries demonstration platform (KRW 16.4 billion).

Autonomous driving level 4 is a high-level autonomous driving stage that recognizes and judges the situation on its own and does not require the intervention of drivers even in emergent situations.

It also plans to establish Daegu as a data hub for the automobile industry by creating an 'automobile industry data center' and connecting with the establishment of an open platform ecosystem for future technology innovation of the automobile industry (KRW 6 billion).

It also plans to develop 10 electric autonomous cars for Level 3 test that can be used for multi-purposes, including patrol, delivery, and cleaning by 2023 through supply of motors and reducers from Sambo and Valeo PyeongHwa, chassis and driving parts from Erae AMS, and E/E parts from SL·THN, in collaboration with autonomous a2z, an autonomous driving manufacturer.

In addition, in cooperation with A2G, an autonomous vehicle manufacturing company, it will supply motors and reducers from Sambo and Pyeonghwa Valeo, chassis and drive parts from Rae AMS, and electric parts from SL and THN, etc. It plans to develop 10 electric autonomous vehicles for level 3 test.

This year, it plans to roll-out 9,566 zero-emission cars, including 6,191 electric vehicles (KRW 78.1 billion), 405 hydrogen cars (KRW 13.4 billion), and 2,970 electric two-wheeled vehicles (KRW 5.3 billion), a 48% increase from last year.

In line with the increased supply, the city will also expand the base, such as shared chargers and chargers attached to a wall.

Furthermore, the city will devise various business support policies such as youth employment creation support (KRW 3.96 billion), the mutual-growth special guarantee support of Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KRW 12.5 billion), and future car conversion fund loan (KRW 20 billion) through collaboration with the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency.

It also plans to devise detailed systematic foundation for support for future car industry by formulating an ordinance of 'future car industry development and support' in the first half of this year and expand business opportunities by hosting the Daegu International Future Auto Expo.
