DAEGU < invest Korea

According to Yonhap News,

Daegu-si announced on July 5 that it was selected as the host of the '2026 World Masters Athletics Championships'.

According to the city, the members of the World Masters Athletics (WMA) unanimously made such decision at the general meeting held in Tampere, Finland on July 4 (local time).

Previously, Daegu-si successfully hosted the 2017 World Masters Indoor Athletics Championships.

Accordingly, Korea became the first country in Asia to host both indoor and outdoor competitions by the WMA.

The World Masters Athletics Championships began in Toronto, Canada in August 1975, with indoor·outdoor competitions held every other year.

The 2026 Daegu Games will be held for 14 days around August-September, with a total of 35 events including 18 track events, 11 field events, and 6 road events scheduled at the Daegu Stadium and Athletics Promotion Center. The city expects about 11,000 people to participate from 90 countries.
