According to Newsis,
Daegu-si said on July 19 that it will integrate Daegu Technopark (TP) and Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Design Promotion (DGDP) to focus policy capabilities on the convergence of local manufacturing and design industries from the second half of this year to provide one-stop support for technology and design, thereby increasing the competitiveness of local companies.
Design is now an indispensable corporate competitiveness in the entire process from product planning to branding and marketing. However, actively incorporating design in business management seems has not been easy for the region.
There are 21 industrial complexes in Daegu, including national industrial complexes. Among them, about 9,500 occupant companies have manufacturing bases, but the mots of them are 2nd or 3rd vendors, with few having their own design specialists.
Daegu-si will build a collaborative system, supporting technology and design at the same time from the early stage of corporate support under one control tower, combining technology capabilities of Daegu TP and design capabilities of DGDP.
From the second half of this year, the city will go ahead with design-led innovative product research and development (R&D) tasks for local manufacturing companies, providing support or commercialization of the technology products and initial sales channels.
In addition, the city plans to help companies without manufacturing bases to commercialize excellent product development ideas into products of designs that meet the needs of consumers, and actively link them with producers.
By converging manufacturing technology and design from product development to prototype manufacturing, the city expects enhanced competitiveness of manufacturing and design industries.
Daegu-si said this integration of the organizations would not pull back the local design industry promotion policy, as concerned by some sector, and be strengthened through realistic connection with manufacturing companies.
In fact, it will become possible to participate for the design sector to participate not only in the projects carried out by DGDP (28 projects, KRW 15 billion) but also in the projects supported by Daegu TP (54 projects, KRW 51 billion), the role of local design specialists and design companies will be more important and expanded.
