Infineon Technologies, a German-based semiconductor company specializing in automotive chips, will establish a research and development center in the Internet of Things (IoT) field in Daegu.

On October 19, Daegu-si, Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), and Infineon signed an agreement at Daegu Exco to establish the "IoT Innovation Center".

Under the agreement, Infineon plans to open an IoT innovation center at the Industry-Academic Cooperation Center within the DGIST by next year.

The Center will be in charge of developing sensors and connectivity (technology that supports smooth use of networks) applications. It will have fifteen researchers.

Infineon is a global company in the field of power systems and IoT, with 59 R&D centers and 19 manufacturing plants around the world.

The CEO of Infineon Korea, said, "We are pleased to establish the first IoT innovation center in Korea based on strong support from Daegu-si and the DGIST".

Daegu's mayor said, "We hope it will help revitalize the local economy and build an ecosystem for the semiconductor industry in Daegu."
