According to Yonhap News,

(Daegu = Yonhap News) Reporter Park Se-jin – Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province announced on the 15th that they held a kick-off meeting for the '2026 Regional Base Information Security Cluster Construction Project' to propel the initiative forward.

The meeting was held at the Daegu Content Business Center in Sincheon-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, with officials from the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) in attendance.

During the meeting, attendees discussed project execution plans, strategies to foster information security enterprises linked with the artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics industries, and specialized talent development programs.

The Regional Base Information Security Cluster Construction Project aims to expand the information security industrial infrastructure—currently concentrated in the Seoul Metropolitan Area—to non-capital regions, strengthening local self-sustainability.

Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province have been advancing the project since being selected in the final call for proposals hosted by MSIT and KISA last June. Through 2030, a total project budget of KRW 20 billion (including KRW 10 billion in national funding) will be invested into the initiative.

A Daegu-Gyeongbuk consortium has also been formed, comprising the Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency, Pohang Technopark, the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement, and the Korea Robot Convergence Institute.

The city and province are working to nurture information security enterprises and startups, validate and commercialize AI-robotics convergence security technologies, and cultivate specialized talent.

A city official stated, "Taking this cluster construction project as a stepping stone, we will seamlessly execute the project so that Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do can establish themselves as core hubs for the AI-robotics convergence security industry."
