According to Yonhap News,
(Daegu = Yonhap News) Reporter Park Se-jin – Daegu Metropolitan City announced on the 22nd that it will begin building a manufacturing AI (artificial intelligence) ecosystem in earnest to boost the competitiveness of the local mobility parts industry.
The city plans to invest KRW 14.5 billion in national funds and KRW 10 billion in municipal funds by 2029 to establish a manufacturing AI ecosystem and build a foundation for future-car manufacturing innovation.
By leveraging AI and digital twin technologies, the city aims to upgrade production processes and enhance productivity and quality for local mobility parts enterprises.
Furthermore, it plans to construct shared manufacturing AI infrastructure to reduce initial investment burdens on companies and promote the widespread adoption of AI.
As part of this effort, the city will build a Manufacturing AI Diffusion Center inside the Intelligent Automobile Parts Promotion Agency in Dalseong-gun.
The goal is to finalize the detailed design this year, break ground in 2027, and complete construction in 2028, with a project budget of approximately KRW 3.7 billion.
The center will feature a digital twin-based manufacturing process design and testing environment, educational facilities, and spaces for technical exchange and networking.
In April, the city was selected in a public competition hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for the "Mobility Parts Manufacturing AI Diffusion Center Construction Project," securing KRW 14.5 billion in national funding.
In addition, the city will allocate KRW 13.6 billion to acquire six types of shared manufacturing AI equipment. This year, it will place orders for a 'virtual environment-based process verification simulator' and 'manufacturing data collection and analysis equipment,' with the remaining equipment to be installed in phases.
To support local enterprises, KRW 7.2 billion will be spent to provide simulations for manufacturing process improvement, bottleneck analysis, consulting for manufacturing AI adoption, and technical guidance.
Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho stated, "Centered on the Mobility Parts Manufacturing AI Diffusion Center, we will accelerate the AI transformation of local enterprises and build an advanced manufacturing innovation ecosystem to leap forward as a city leading South Korea's future mobility and manufacturing innovation."
