According to Yonhap News,

Daegu is selected as the venue for the International Congress of the Eastern Regional Organization for Planning and Housing (EAROPH), a non-profit organization dealing with settlement environments around the world under the United Nations.

Daegu city said on April 8th that Korean cities had fierce competition for the International Congress, since it was confirmed that the event would be held in Korea. The city plans to form an organization committee soon.

EAROPH, which was established in 1954, has 82 organizations of 28 countries as its members and holds the International Congress every two years.

The organization provides opportunities to find out ways to improve the settlement environment of the Asia Pacific region and exchange information.

Mayors of major member cities will participate in next year’s congress in Daegu, scheduled to be in September or October, and introduce their successful and failed policies for settlement and housing. The result will be reported to the U.N.

An official of Daegu said “the International Congress of EAROPH will serve as a chance to promote Daegu’s municipal image.”
