According to Yonhap News

The Daegu Metropolitan Government said on November 24 that it has designated 23 organizations as being the leading medical institutions in a program that is designed to discover advanced medical technologies, and that will help to boost the city’s foundation for attracting medical tourism.

Leading medical tourism organizations that have been designated this time are 12 general hospitals, including Daegu University Medical Center, Kyungpook National University Hospital, and Dongsan Medical Center, and 11 clinics, including Gounmi Dermatologic Clinic, Kim & Song Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, and Metro I Center Eye Clinic.

The city government received applications from 120 organizations, which are registered as medical institutions seeking to attract foreign patients with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and to have them reviewed by an evaluation committee.

Over the next two years, the city government will provide the 23 institutions with various benefits, including assistance in the development of new medical tourism products, public relations and marketing, the use of the title “leading medical institutions,” providing the preferential rights to participate in domestic and foreign briefing sessions, translation of PR materials, and interpretation services.

Hong Seok-jun, the Chief of the Medical Industry Team for Daegu Metropolitan Government, said, “Through a public recruitment process, we have selected medical institutions that are actually enthusiastic about medical tourism,” adding, “We will implement a medical tourism policy through selection and we will focus primarily on targeting leading medical institutions, and will then provide generous support to organizations that make achievements” .
