According to Yonhap News,
Daegu said on Jan. 19 that about 1,500 Chinese tourists, who bought a general tour package, will visit Daegu during Chinese New Year's Day, the biggest holiday in China that lasts from Jan. 22 to 28.
Behind the remarkable achievement lies the city's aggressive promotion marketing strategy targeting Chinese famous travel agencies and travel agencies specialized in Daegu from last September, to attract Chinese visitors.
The tourists include 720 visitors from China, 650 from Taiwan, and 100 from Hong Kong. Most of them are going to make a group tour with each group consisting of 20-40 members.
They will visit major tourist attractions, such as Mt. Palgong,
Donghwa Temple, Yakryeong City, Herb Hills, Guan Town and Dongseong Avenue,
and later go shopping, during their stay of two nights and three days.
Daegu Mayor Kim Beom-il said that "The achievement is an indicator of showing that Daegu is transforming into a popular tourist attraction," adding that "We will make efforts to achieve the goal of attracting 50,000 Chinese tourists in 2012 with detailed marketing strategies."
