According to Yonhap News,

The R&D Special Zone Support Office at Daegu Technology Commercialization Center announced on Jan. 26 that it registered INTRI as a research corporation.

The research corporation refers to an enterprise established within the special R&D zone with more than 20% of investment from equity to make a technology whose patent is owned by a public research institute commercially available.

INTRI is the first research corporation founded in the Daegu special zone after additional designations of Daegu and northern Gyeongsang Province as the special R&D zone.

The corporation is allowed to use the technology of the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institution, a government-run research institute, and financed by investment in cash from the institute's holding company ETRI Holdings and BND, a professional enterprise in Daegu.

INTRI is the exemplary case of Hub-Spoke that enables research achievements accumulated at Daedeok Special Zone to spread across the Daegu special zone and makes them commercially available.

INTRI, in particular, aims at becoming a "Born to Global" company targeting the global market from the stage of selecting business items and planning.

The company plans to advance both into the domestic and the U.S. markets from its early stage of business, promoting itself as a specialized company in multimedia codec based on the technology transferred from ETRI.

The Daegu center paid the cost for evaluation of technology transferred from ETRI and provides customized consulting services until INTRI was registered as a research corporation.

Na Sang-min, director of the center, said, "A research corporation is a shortcut to the success of fledging companies," adding that "I'd like to urge many people not to be afraid of failures and start business with entrepreneurship."
