As part of a concerted city-wide effort to attract investment from Japan, Daegu Mayor Kim Beom-il has been pushing for the Japan Zone, an industrial complex for Japanese companies, within Daegu's national industrial complex. Kim is currently organizing an investment promotion seminar in Japan with the Delegation for Investment Promotion and Business Exchange.

The group, led by Kim and scheduled to be in Tokyo until Friday, will invite 25 Japanese companies, members of the Technology Advanced Metropolitan Area (TAMA), to the seminar to promote Daegu's business friendly investment environment and introduce its industrial complexes, including Technopolis and the Daegu National Science Industrial Complex.

The delegation will focus on promoting the Japan Zone, the construction for which is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year on half of a 430,000 square meter-site within the national complex that has been designated a foreign investment zone.

The team will also visit Sumitomo Chemical, which created Samsung Sumitomo LED Materials, a joint venture with Samsung LED in Seongseo Industrial Complex No.5 last May, to ink a deal to develop sustainable economic cooperation.

The delegation will also sign a trilateral MOU with TAMA and Yeungjin College and an LOI with Japanese companies that want to expand into Daegu.
