According to Yonhap News,

Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) signed an agreement on joint research and investment with the U.S. Agilent Technologies, according to Daegu. Both sides agreed to build a research center on brain metastasis in Daegu-Gyeongbuk Comprehensive Cutting-Edge Medical Complex to conduct research and nurture researchers.

Brain metastasis is a new scientific field that makes possible diagnosis of various diseases including brain disorder at an early stage by analyzing metabolites of cells inside the brain.

Agilent Technologies is a California-based company that specializes in measurement with 18,700 employees in about 100 countries. It recorded annual sales of $6.6 billion as of 2011.

"The research center to be built in the cutting-edge complex, scheduled to open in next April, will emerge as a bioscience research hub to supply professionals in cutting-edge analysis devices to the Asia and Pacific region, said Daegu Mayor Kim Beom-il.
