According to Yonhap News,

The 15th International Biotechnology Symposium and Exhibition (IBS) 2012 is scheduled to be held at Daegu Exhibition Convention Center from September 16 to 21, under the theme of "Innovative Biotechnology for Realization of Green Society."

The IBS, the largest biotechnology symposium in the world, had been held every four years since its first event in Rome, Italy in 1960 until 2008 when it decided to be held biennially.

About 3,000 people from 50 countries will attend the symposium.

This year's symposium will be classified into 8 sections and 97 sessions, organized by the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering, in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Korea and the Korean Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology.

Dr. Aaron Ciechanover who won the Nobel Prize in chemistry and Stanley N. Cohen will deliver keynote speeches and 160 experts in the bio industry will be invited to give lectures.

The IBS 2012 organizing committee will examine abstracts of theses presented to award the best prize by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.

The committee plans to hold a bio exhibition to give bio companies an opportunity to promote their products and technology, which could lead to attracting investment from foreign companies.
