According to Yonhap News,

A total of 12.4 tons of apples harvested from Mt. Palgong will be exported to Hong Kong and Malaysia this year, according to Daegu City.

Daegu produces 3,300 tons of apples annually, well-known for their high sugar contents and hard flesh.

Since 2009, Daegu has exported dozen tons of apples to Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore, but it is the first time to export apples to Hong Kong.

The city plans to launch a campaign to regain the reputation of Daegu apples along with several other cultural events in partnership with the Daegu Apple Farming Association Corporation.

"We will modernize production facilities of farmers to produce high-quality apples and increase exports further," said a Daegu official.
