According to Daegu last week, a bidding committee for the 2017 International Society for Education through Art (InSEA) and the Daegu Convention & Visitors Bureau successfully attracted the 2017 INSEA. The city competed with Turkey to hold the event.

The InSEA is a non-profit organization under the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization, established by Dr. Herbert Read in 1954 aiming at fostering well-rounded students with education through arts after the aftermath of the Second World War.

It is well known for its active members of art educators and artists who represent 80 countries around the world. The InSEA consists of seven regions of Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Southeast Asia, Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.

The meeting of the World Council of InSEA, is held in every three years. It is the largest arts education event in the world, and has a research conference and main congress.

During a six-day event, academic presentations, workshops, exhibitions and experience programs will be provided.

The InSEA Asia Regional Congress 2007 was held in Seoul, and the InSEA 2017 to be held in Daegu is expected to draw more than 1,500 arts education experts from around the world.

Daegu was named as the host of the 2017 InSEA through executives’ vote at the World Council Meeting.

Turkey with its historic city Konya held active promotion activities with strong relationship with European representatives.

However, the Korean bidding committee’s systematic promotion effort, strong support from Asian countries including Japan, Taiwan and Philippines, commitment from the Korea Tourism Organization and Daegu and the Daegu Convention & Visitors Bureau’s aggressive efforts succeeded in attracting the event.

In particular, a presentation by Daegu city and the Daegu Convention & Visitors Bureau made an impression on the council to result in more votes for Daegu.

Daegu, a cradle of Korean modern arts and a city of culture and arts, will promote its cultural heritage and infrastructure throughout the event.

The city will also put its upmost efforts for the successful event and participate in the 34th InSEA which will be held in Melbourn, Australia to promote the city.

Ahn Guk-jung, head of the Economy and Trade Bureau of Daegu, noted that the event will enhance the prestige of Daegu, create positive economic effects and contribute to development of the field of arts.
