The 15th International Symposium on Olfaction & Electronic Nose (ISOEN) is held in Daegu this week.

About 100 experts from around 40 countries including the United States, Japan and European countries and 300 Korean experts participated in the event.

The symposium, hosted by the Joint Institute for Regenerative Medicine and the Kyungpook National University, is held in Asia for the first time since its establishment in 1994.

About 300 olfaction and electronic nose experts from around 40 countries will gather to present and discuss about 160 research papers.

ISOEN, a biannual event, presents and delivers views on basic and applied sensor technology against biochemical terrorism. Electronic noses, which use bio and chemical sensors and sensor arrays developed based on humans’ olfactory sense, are used in medical examination, environment watch, food management, early warning fire detection system and more.

Daegu mayor Kim Bum-il noted that the 15th ISOEN will help Daegu to become a leader in the field of olfaction and electronic nose, adding that the event will help to advance the medical industry in the region in association with an advanced medical complex.
