The Daegu University opened a complex for industry-academia convergence for the first time in Korea Wednesday.
The complex integrates research of small- and medium-sized companies to support their research and development (R&D) and commercialization.
The Small and Medium Business Administration designated five universities with outstanding infrastructure for industry-academia cooperation as complexes for industry-academia convergence last May. Daegu University was the only university to open the complex in Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province and Gangwon Province.
Daegu University will be supported with KRW 4 billion for two years from the Korean government to support about 20 companies in the complexes for their R&D and commercialization in the field of automobile, machinery, biotechnology, environment and smart devices.
Additional research institutes will be installed to build a cooperation network between companies, the university and researchers.
President of Daegu University Hong Duck-ryul expected the complex will lead the era of creative economy and become a successful convergence model for technological innovation and commercialization.
