(DAEGU = Yonhap News) The Daegu National Science Museum, nation’s first industrial science technology institute, opened on 24 December in Daegu Technopolis.
The ceremony was attended by officials from various government agencies including the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Yoon Jong-rok and local residents.
“It is the only national science museum in Yeongnam area and we expect that the museum will quench the local residents’ thirst for scientific knowledge. The museum will work hard to provide visitors a pleasant and comfortable exhibition environment,” said the head of the museum Kang Sin-won.
The Korean Government and city of Daegu invested a total of KRW 116 billion from 2007 to 2012 to build three floor level museum in 117,000㎡ site.
The museum comprises two permanent exhibition halls, children hall, event exhibition hall, planetarium, 4D theater and cheonjiin school.
A total of 233 modern science exhibits of 43 themes were displayed in the permanent and children halls.
65 percent of the exhibits are participatory exhibits, which can be seen and touched by the visitors.
The museum offered free entrance between 1 and 22 November and more than 120,000 local residents visited the museum.
Admission fees for the permanent hall and children hall are KRW 3,000 (KRW 2,000 for a group) for adults and KRW 2,000 for teenagers and children (KRW 1,000 for a group). The museum offers free admission to seniors (65 and older), children under 7 and people with disabilities.
However, admission fees for the planetarium and 4D theater will be charged differently, with KRW 2,000 for adults (KRW 500 for a group) and KRW 1,000 for teenagers, children, seniors and children under 7 (KRW 500 for a group).
