(DAEGU = Yonhap News) The environment ministers of Korea, China and Japan will gather in Daegu in 2014 to discuss cooperation in the environmental issues of Northeastern Asia.

The city of Daegu announced on December 23 that it will hold the 16th Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting (TEMM) after competition with other cities and regions.

The two-day meeting will be held from April at the Exco on April 28 in 2014.

The TEMM was suggested by Korea and three nations have been holding the meeting by turns annually since 1999. The last meeting was held in Ktakyushu, southern Japan, in May.

In 2014’s meeting, three nations will enhance trilateral cooperation to cope with the environmental issues of the Northeastern Asia, particularly address the issues such as yellow dust, acid rain and air pollution.

A joint statement of agreement that covers the discussed issues and plans will also be announced during the meeting.

“The city will invite Chinese and Japanese environment ministers to the Daegu arboretum, which was transformed from the landfill, and the Daegu Environmental Resource Park, which made KRW 4.3 billion of profits through clean developments, to promote as an advanced green city,” said Daegu official.
