(DAEGU=Yonhap News) Daegu Metropolitan City Government announced June 9 that an agreement was reached between Daegu City and YASUKAWA Electric Corporation of Japan, to build Robot Center Korea in the city’s Seongseo 5th Industrial Complex.
The contract was signed at the Daegu Metropolitan City Government. A factory of 8,996㎡ is scheduled to be built on a 11,438㎡ site within the complex in the second half of this year.
The factory will begin its operation in the second half of 2015. After bringing the main robot bodies from Japan, core system and surrounding equipment will be manufactured. The finished product will be sold in the domestic market.
Previously, SSLM Co., Ltd., which operates as a subsidiary of Sumitomo Chemical Co. Ltd. entered the complex. By inviting yet another giant Japanese corporation, the city expects to meet a momentum in nurturing its robot industry. Along with the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement (KIRIA), Hopes are high for the Robot Center Korea to make a significant contribution to creating a cluster of robot industry.
With an annual profit of KRW4 trillion, YASUKAWA Electric Corporation, founded 100 years ago, is a giant global manufacturer of robots, servo-motors and inverters. The company has 14,000 employees and has the biggest market share in the world.
