Daegu Develops Medical Industry as Regional Growth Engine

(DAEGU=Yonhap News) Daegu City will strive to develop the medical industry in 2015.

Daegu will develop the high-tech medical complex into a national high-tech medical hub where one-stop services will be guaranteed from research and development, certification and licensing, clinical trials and marketing.

An applied technology center for oriental medicine, a 3D convergence technical support center and joint research center for medical ventures will move into the high-tech medical complex from April.

The high-tech medical complex has five core infrastructures including the New Drug Development Center and the High-Tech Medical Equipment Development Support Center, ten national research institutions and 60 medical companies.

The city will invest KRW 10 billion to establish a U-health comprehensive support center in the communication center of the high-tech medical complex to develop the medical device industry into a regional specialized industry.

"We will strive to develop the high-tech medical complex so that Daegu can become the medical industry hub in East Asia," said Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin.
