(DAEGU=Yonhap News) Daegu will hold a strategic seminar to accelerate the establishment of a bioplastic demonstration plant, which has been selected as a national project, on April 28.

Hosted by CJ CheilJedang and Lotte Chemical, small- and medium-sized companies (SMEs) including BioHelix, KPX Green Chemical, Shinpung Textile and Ohsung Electronics will participate in the event.

As a follow-up to the business agreement between Daegu City and relevant companies, the project is to build a demonstration plant in the third Seongseo Industrial Complex to develop materials and produce prototypes and to review the establishment of a manufacturing facility in the Daegu national industrial complex in the commercialization stage.

The initial plan was to finish the design by September and complete the construction of a bioplastic demonstration plant and develop and produce prototypes and products by 2019. However, the city has decided to accelerate the plan and move up the schedule by the first half of 2018.

As the project is the first large-scale national project in the biochemical sector, the city plans to create a success model by cooperating with large-scale companies and SMEs and medium-szied companies.
