According to Yonhap News,

(ULSAN=Yonhap News) Ulsan Metropolitan Government will get down to business of developing the 3D printing industry, a core technology for the manufacturing innovation.

The city has been pushing ahead with the business since 2015 after selecting it as one of new growth engines.

Following KRW 3.9 billion investment in 2015 and KRW 6.75 billion in 2016, the city will inject KRW 22.8 billion to continue 5 existing projects and 6 new projects.

In a move to establish a foundation for the 3D industry, Ulsan earlier set up the high-tech 3D printing research center at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) in 2015 and 2016.

The center has worked on 3D bioprinting of patient-customized tissue regeneration and won two patents on neural stem cell differentiation technique and stem cell mass cultivation system.

Ulsan also created 26 jobs and generated KRW 3.9 billion in sales while reducing expenses by about KRW 1.5 billion by setting up a R&D base for eco-friendly automotive parts and providing technical support for demand-based manufacturing innovation.

The city also nurtured 70 instructors and educated 2,094 students specialized in 3D printing through a training program tailored to the region.
