Petrochemical Industry
Korea is the world’s 4th largest chemical production (ethylene 12,800, 000 tons/year) country. 293 companies in Ulsan produced KRW 153 trillion, making Ulsan the largest petrochemical producing city in Korea.
Ulsan is home to Asia's largest chemical industrial complex (74㎢) as well as oil-refining factories in world-class scale such as SK Energy (840,000 barrels/day), S-oil (669,000 barrels/day). In addition, Korea's leading chemical companies such as SK Geo Centric, Lotte Chemical, KPIC, and Kumho PC and global chemical companies including BP, Mobil, Dupont, BASF, and Eastman are all gathered and engaged in active production activities.
In addition, Ulsan will realize its vision to become Asia's top advanced chemical industry city by 2030 through concentration of national research centers and specialized R&D complexes including the Division of Specialty and Bio-Based Chemicals Technology under the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology and the Fine Chemical and Material Technology Support Division under Ulsan Technopark, and fostering new industries such as biochemistry, fine chemistry, and nano chemistry.
