According to Yonhap News,

(ULSAN=Yonhap news) Ulsan is setting out to be home to the new Korean branch of EWI, formerly known as Edison Welding Institute, the largest nonprofit engineering organization in North America.

On April 13, Ulsan Mayor Kim Gi-hyeon met with EWI's Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Chris Conrardy at the city hall, where the two talked over the possibility of EWI opening its first overseas technology center in Ulsan, as well as global trends in 3D printing technology development.

Following the meeting, Vice President Conrardy and other EWI representatives visited Hyundai Heavy Industries headquarters and the Ulsan branch of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH), and discussed different plans to develop technology.

Founded in 1984, EWI is based in the U.S. city of Columbus, Ohio, and employs some 160 professionals with doctoral degrees.

The city of Ulsan is currently investing KRW 113.1 billion in 11 projects involving the 3D printing industry.
