According to Yonhap News,

(ULSAN=Yonhap News) Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) is joining hands with a Belgium-based company that leads the world's 3D-printing market.

On May 15, UNIST signed with representative European 3D-printing software company Materilaise at the institute's main campus to conduct joint research.

Founded in Belgium in 1990, Materialise is considered no. 1 in the world in 3D-printing software.

Based on the agreement, the two parties will carryout joint research on using 3D-printing technology to create lightweight parts for transportation vehicles such as automobiles, aircrafts and ships.

Last year, UNIST opened an advanced 3D-printing technology center, and has since been focusing on developing eco-friendly auto parts.

The center plans to develop technology that can be applied to automotive and shipbuilding industries, help nurture local startups into global companies, and cultivate professionals in related fields.
