World's Biggest 3D Printig Software Firm Seeks to Open Branch in Ulsan

(ULSAN=Yonhap News)The world's biggest 3D printing software company Materialise has expressed its intent to open a branch in Ulsan.

The city of Ulsan announced October 16 that President Wilfried Vancraen of Materialise visited the city and met with Ulsan Mayor Kim Gi-Hyeon to discuss the company's establishment of its Korean branch in Ulsan and the development of business models for 3D printing.

Following the meeting, President Vancrean paid a visit to the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) where he talked about ways to develop eco-friendly auto parts technology.

Founded in 1990 in Belgium, Materialise is the world's biggest company in the field of 3D printing, and currently has 17 branches in different countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan.

In June, Edison Welding Institute, the largest 3D printing commercialization research institute in the U.S., established a branch in Ulsan, and the city also plans to attract a branch of U,K.'s largest 3D printing commercialization research institute Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre later this year.
