(SEOUL=Yonhap News) The government said Thursday it has designated an area in the southeastern industrial city of Ulsan as an exclusive zone for the flying of drones to help boost the drone industry.

A 52,000-square-meter area of land in the western part of the city has been declared an "Ultralight Vehicle Flight Area" where drones can be flown to an altitude of 150 meters regardless of their weight, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said.

The drone flying zone is the eighth of its kind. Similar areas have been established in Incheon, Gwangju in Gyeonggi Province, Cheongju in North Chungcheong Province and Gimhae, Milyang and Changwon in South Gyeongnam Province.

The new drone zone will open Dec. 7.
