The Ulsan Metropolitan Government announced on March 16 that it would launch the urban renewal projects for the Dong-gu and Buk-gu districts, with a total budget of KRW 22.2 billion.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Government organized the first Urban Renewal Committee meeting on March 14, chaired by the city’s Vice Mayor for Administration. The committee members deliberated upon the plans for regenerating the Bangeojin Port and the old town area in Dong-gu as well as preserving the memory of old Sogeumpo and strengthening the local community in the Yangjeong–Yeompo area of Buk-gu.
The plan for the Bangeojin Port project was approved in its original form, and that for the Sogeumpo project was approved on the condition that the Buk-gu District Office would develop effective new items to be displayed at the proposed Sogeumpo History Museum as well as new ideas that would emphasize the theme of the local automotive industry.
The Dong-gu District Office will commence its project in April this year, with a view to completing it by the end of 2020. The Buk-gu District Office will launch its project in May, also with a view to completing it by the end of 2020.
The Bangeojin Port project will develop a World Culture Street, a History Street, local festivals, and a program for supporting local enterprises around the Bangeojin Port on a budget of KRW 12.1 billion.
The Sogeumpo project will involve improving the environment at and around Sinjeon Market, establishing the Sogeumpo History Museum, and developing a new car-themed street in the Yangjeong–Yeompo area with a budget of KRW 10.1 billion.
