(ULSAN=Yonhap News) On April 3, Turkey's Undersecretary of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology Veysel Yayan led a delegation to Ulsan to benchmark the city's successful eco-industrial park.

Ulsan Mayor Gi-Hyeon Kim received the Turkish delegation and the group visited the city's Public Relations Hall. They also inspected S-Oil's waste heat power plant commercially operated by KD Powertech.

On April 2, the Turkish delegation and Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy took part in the Korea-Turkey Eco-Industry Development Business Forum held at the Convention and Exhibition Center in Seoul.

Participants of the forum shared strategy and policy ideas on topics including Turkey's green industrial park implementation strategy and efficient energy action plan, and Korea's strategy to develop a sustainable industrial park and obtain efficient industrial energy.

Turkey is in the process of preparing policies for building an eco-industrial park in cooperation the World Bank Group.

Turkish developers took an interest in Ulsan's eco-industrial park due to the park's waste heat exchange system.

Ulsan is also a leader in manufacturing and producing steam and electricity using industrial waste from incinerators and oil refinery distillation towers.

As a result, the city has commercialized 24 research projects, created 195 new jobs saved KRW 160 billion in fees and accomplished new sales. Moreover, the system reduced Greenhouse gas emissions by 690,000 tons, resulting in greater productivity, corporate profit and environmental sustainability.

An Ulsan City official commented, "We are working closely with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to help Ulsan companies make headway into the global market, and hope that the visit from the Turkish delegation will be a positive starting point."
