According to Yonhap News,
(ULSAN=Yonhap News) Ulsan City is striving to become a cultural city under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's plans to foster designated cultural cities.
The city plans to find related projects this year and apply for a cultural city designation next year.
Cultural cities are designated so they can use their region-specific cultural resources to strengthen the city's cultural creativity.
The ministry designates cultural cities based on the requirements of the regional culture promotion act after receiving applications from local governments.
On June 4, the city held a cultural city designation fostering project session with the Ulsan Culture Foundation, Ulsan Development Institute, Cultural Center, regional artists and a youth culture planner in attendance.
At the session, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism shared and communicated plans for the general direction of the development of a cultural city, specialization plans for each cultural resource, creative program development and investment financing.
The ministry plans to designate and support 30 cultural cities by 2022.
Also, in order for the designated cultural cities to successfully carry out their cultural city development plans, the ministry provides support with planning and preliminary project promotion as well as consulting for 5 years including operations and the overall tasks related to the development process.
