According to Yonhap News,
(ULSAN=Yonhap News) Ulsan Port Authority announced on January 31 that its throughput recorded 202.78 million tons, succeeding in reaching 200 million tons for two consecutive years.
The volume recorded an increase by 0.2% (430,000 tons), from 202.35 million tons in 2017.
166.51 million tons of liquid cargo was handled, a 0.1% decrease (140,000 tons) from the previous year.
The general cargo recorded 36.27 million tons, a 1.6% increase (570,000 tons) from a year earlier.
When it comes to container cargo, 489,746 TEU(twenty-foot equivalent unit) was processed, a 5.1% increase from the previous year, breaking annual record.
An Authority official said " we had difficult time in the first half of the year due to oil refinery's regular repair and recession in the shipbuilding industry," but "we achieved 200 million tons throughput for two years in a row thanks to container cargo breaking record through a new seaway opening and upward trend of general cargo with attracting automotive cargo".
