Ulsan city announced on April 5 that it will dispatch "International Cooperation Delegation" to San Francisco and Huston, US on April 7-14.

The delegation has been planned to seek measures to make progress on city's important issues such as an open university and the hub of Northeast Asian Energy, among others.

The first stop-over of the delegation will be innovative educational institutions located in Silicon Valley, such as Ecole 42, Singularity university, and Minerva School to discuss cooperative measures as a way to identify an optimal model for Ulsan's planned open university--which is a campaign pledge of Ulsan city's mayor.

In particular, Minerva School is known as the state-of-the-art university without an established campus, running all its classes online, as the students are spread over 7 cities all over the world.

Houston is reckoned as the world's largest oil refinery industry, ranked 1st in liquid cargo handling capacity. It is recognized as one of the top 3 oil hubs, along with Europe's ARA (Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp) and Singapore.

As Houston is a leader in the energy industry such as oil and wind power as well as space, bio, and medical industries, it offers potential for co-development based on industrial and geological similarities with Ulsan.

The exchanges between the two cities began in earnest in 2015 based on their common interest in "energy and new industry" and they plan to sign an MOU on exchanges and cooperation.

The city also plans to hold "Investment Conference" to explain "Ulsan's Initiative for Northeast Asian Energy Hub" to those involved in energy industries in Houston.

The delegation is scheduled to visit Human Genome Sequencing Center of Baylor College of Medicine in Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical cluster, to witness the precision medicine of the US and factor into its genome-based bio-healthcare industry.
