Exports in Sep. up 3.8% by auto-shipbuilding industry
Thanks to the increase in exports of automobiles and ships, the export value of Ulsan in September increased slightly from last year. A report on the export trends and outlook in September released on Oct 21 by Ulsan Customs Office says Exports amounted to $ 5.55 billion, up 3.8% year-over-year. Imports amounted to $ 3.48 billion, down 15.8% compared to last year.
The trade balance is a surplus of $ 2.07 billion, the 73rd consecutive months since October 2014. Looking at exports by item, automobiles recorded $ 1.5 billion, up 15.7% compared with the previous year due to increased demand for North American SUVs.
Crude oil imports, which account for more than half of the total, fell by 34.1% year-on-year to $ 1.59 billion due to the decline in crude oil prices and the decrease in imports.
Chemicals also recorded $ 280 million, down 20.6% from a year ago, due to lower oil and raw material prices.
