Ulsan city launched a committee to develop 3D printing technology

The city of Ulsan hosted the first round of committee meeting on Feb 19, started form coalition to develop 3D printing technology in Ulsan city. The program consisted of the award ceremony of executive consultant appointment letter, a development vision statement ceremony, a series of presentation sessions, briefing the current application cases of 3D printing technology in Hyundai Motors and Laonix, followed by free, open discussions.

The committee comprises 18 representatives from both private and public sectors: industry specialists, university professors, Ulsan City Economic Deputy Mayor and business leaders. These executive consultant work for three years from the initial date of the appointment. They will mainly take the role of advisors and assistant for the industry development planning. Prior to the launch of the committee, the city has enacted relevant legislative guidelines, setting up a master plan to foster the 3D printing industry in order to be in keeping with the government-led initiatives to scale up the size of the market, in equivalent, in value, to KRW 1 trillion, by the end of 2022.

With the city’s vision to become the hub of manufacturing innovation driven by the 3D printing business, the city authorities set detailed objectives to accomplish- establishing 8 tech-innovation centers until 2023, turning 100 early stage innovative ideas into something commercially viable, fostering 50 tech specialists and adding 700 new jobs.
